A new facility to help people grow their food business is now open in Unicoi County.
Officials from across Tennessee came to cut the ribbon on the Mountain Harvest Kitchen.
The kitchen will be used as a business incubator for people who want to make food products to sell at farmers markets or other venues.
The building has all the professional-grade equipment needed to prepare food on a commercial level.
“The kitchen is awesome because it allows somebody like me who makes custom cookies to come in and do large quantities of cookies where you can’t do that in your home kitchen. So, I can get hundreds of cookies baked in the time that I can make three dozen at home,” kitchen user Laura Thompson said.
They also unveiled an art project called the Tanasi Bison.
It’s a relief placed on the Unicoi Tourist Center.
The artist, Joe Pilkenton says Tanasi is the Native American word for Tennessee.
